Vinyl Siding is a very low maintenance product that really doesn't take much effort to keep it looking its best. You will have to clean it from time to time to remove any dirt that has started to build up. Living here in Tennessee, we do have another problem to deal with though, mold and mildew. Since our summers tend to be pretty humid, it's the perfect breeding ground for mold and mildew. First things first, safety. Before you start cleaning, make sure you are dressed appropriately. Closed-toe shoes, rubber gloves and safety goggles are a must. It's also a good idea to wear a face mask to protect you from breathing in fumes from harsh cleaning products. Also, if you must use a ladder, it's crucial that you have someone hold it for you. Every year, dozens of homeowners are seriously injured or killed as a result of falling off of a ladder.

Some recommended products to keep your vinyl siding in tip top shape are hot soapy water and a long handled soft-bristled brush. If you have visible mold, you will probably need to mix up a solution of Clorox Bleach and water. A hose or pressure washer can definitely make the job go a lot faster. Make sure you don't use the pressure washer on the full setting. If using bleach the pros recommend: 1 quart of bleach for each gallon of water. If your mold problem isn't that severe you may want to try a Vinegar and water solution. The pros recommend a 30/70 mixture of Vinegar to water. It's always a good idea to ask your siding company for their recommendation on cleaning solutions before you begin.
