Pie lovers, with the holidays behind us, you probably thought you had escaped the temptation of delicious deserts. Well get ready for another round of sweets because February is Great American Pie Month. When we think of pies, of course apple springs to mind. But there are hundreds of different pie variations to enjoy. And here at Tennessee thermal, we wanted to take a moment to highlight three of our favorites including peanut butter, cherry, and buttermilk pie.

Peanut Butter Pie

Let’s be honest who doesn’t like peanut butter? And when cream cheese, peanut butter, and whipped cream team up, the results are a silky sweet filling that’s out of this world. Pair that with a chocolate cookie crust for a peanut butter lovers paradise. Nothing goes together better than peanut butter and chocolate. And add graham cracker crumbs, crushed nuts, or even some chocolate candy toppings for a decorative crunch you’re going to love.

Cherry Pie

During Great American Pie Month there happens to be only one day set aside for an American pie and that day is February 20th, National Cherry Pie Day. Over the years, cherry pie recipes have transformed with crust variations and different kinds of cherry filling. But we prefer the classic version. The one with the buttery, flaky crust, with a fresh cherry filling that has just the right amount of sweet and sour. You can’t beat pie made with fresh fruit- all you need is a touch of sugar and starch, and the fruit shines through. Kick back and celebrate Great American Pie Month with a warm slice of delicious cherry pie. And just before serving, try dusting the top with a light coating of powdered sugar or garnish it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Buttermilk Pie

Buttermilk Pie is by far the most popular pie here in Tennessee, so we thought it only fair to take a moment to highlight this pie. Old-fashioned buttermilk pie is a classic southern favorite. With a vanilla flavored custard-like filling that is both deliciously tangy and sweet. The filling is velvety smooth and delicate with rich flavor and a lightly cracked sugar top. Combine that with a buttery, flaky pie crust for an incredible dessert. Grab a fork and enjoy a slice all by itself or place a dollop of whip cream on top before serving for a burst of flavor the whole family will enjoy.

We didn’t come close to naming the best pies in America. However, it’s not what the month is about. It’s about enjoying, baking, sharing, and eating these delicious pies. And since it’s Great American Pie Month we wanted to take a moment to share three of our favorite types of pie. We hope these tips help you decide on which delicious pie to try.
